Humphrey, Doris
(17 oct. 1895, Oak Park, Ill., EE.UU.–29 dic. 1958, Nueva York, N.Y.).

Bailarina y coreógrafa de danza moderna estadounidense. Perteneció a la compañía Denishawn de 1917 a 1928, año en que junto con Charles Weidman cofundaron una escuela y un grupo de danza, que funcionó hasta 1944. En sus coreografías utilizó una forma novedosa de conflicto entre el equilibrio y el desequilibrio, y entre la caída y la recuperación. Sus obras más destacadas son Water Study [Estudio del agua] (1928), The Shakers [Los batidores] (1931) y New Dance (1935). Se retiró como intérprete en 1945, pero continuó trabajando como directora artística de la compañía de José Limón, para la cual compuso obras como Day on Earth [El día en la Tierra] (1947) y Ruins and Visions [Ruinas y visiones] (1953).
